FLOATER/SUBSTITUTE
PREREQUISITE SKILLS:
1. Must be 18 years of age or older.
2. Documentation of three (3) references and known in the community to be of good reputation.
3. Satisfactory certification of Community CPR.
4. Must be able to write on a 10th grade level.
5. Documentation of satisfactory criminal record check per La. R.S. 15:5871.
6. Must provide documentation of good health and physically able to care for children and every three (3) years thereafter.
7. To possess the ability to lift children under the age of five (5) years and the ability to down to and up form the floor.
FUNCTION:
To assist the classroom teacher/instructor in all aspects of classroom operation
REQUIREMENTS:
1. To satisfy all pertinent staff requirements as specified by licensing and funding agencies; and The Arc of Caddo-Bossier’s Core Policies & Procedures, and Children’s Services Manuals.
2. To perform specific duties listed in addition to any related tasks as required by the Center or the Director of Children’s Services.
3. To demonstrate an attitude of cooperation with and respect for all guests, children, parents, families and co-workers while fulfilling your daily responsibilities.
4. To respect all children in the program and their family’s right to confidentiality.
5. To participate in designated staff training and furnish the necessary documentation as directed.
6. To possess the ability to lift children under age 5 years and be able to get down to and up from the floor.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
1. To assist the full time staff member in all aspects of classroom responsibility.
2. To follow the “posted” daily schedule.
3. To follow lesson plans left in the room assigned in the substitute’s folder.
4. To assume responsibility for the class as the situation dictates in emergency situations as instructed.
5. To provide individual and small group instruction as indicated.
6. To supervise and interact with children during less structured times such as exploratory play, toileting, lunch, snack and outdoor play.
7. To assist in feeding, diapering and toileting.
8. To demonstrate professional demeanor toward children, parents, professionals and staff members.
9. Respond quickly in a soothing and tender manner to cries or calls of distress.
10. Respond consistently to needs for food and comfort.
11. To adhere to all Caddo Early Head Start procedures, including those addressing discipline, child abuse/neglect and confidentiality.
12. To keep Center Manager informed of materials and supplies on hand and the need for replenishing.
13. To be willing to work flexible hours to meet the needs of EHS children and families.
14. To be willing to adhere to professional code of conduct which includes no elaborate jewelry at work, no long fingernails which present health and safety risks to children and no use of cell phones while in the classroom.
15. To demonstrate cultural competency and ability to work with diverse groups of individuals, to include persons with developmental disabilities.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Classroom Assistant, Aide, Foster Grandparent, Volunteer, and/or Student Clinician.
