People First

People First is an organization comprised of adults who are self-advocates and consumers of disability services.  The Arc of Caddo-Bossier provides a staff liaison to offer assistance to the organization in reaching its goals.

The Arc of Caddo-Bossier's Advocacy Services provide support, coordination, and leadership for advocacy by furnishing information on education, public policy, programs, jobs, family supports, and local, state, and federal services. 

Advocacy Services assist individuals and families with the following:

  • information on education, public policies, jobs, family services
  • filing Medicaid applications
  • completing state and federal forms
  • locating services and programs, incuding state waiver plans
  • accompanying families for various appointments
  • sponsoring participation in educational workshops for leadership development
  • sponsorship of self-advocacy groups in addressing their rights as citizens
  • support of self-advocates in leadership roles
  • promoting communication with public and private organizations
  • providing advocacy training for parents and family members
  • participation in various state and local organizations that promote The Arc's mission
